Commitment to combat gender inequality is a crucial and consistent core value for ACT Alliance member DanChurchAid and recognised as a cross cutting commitment. DCA aims to transform social, economic and political structures so women can achieve equal status to men. DCA’s strong commitment to gender justice is prominent in their participation in ACT’s Gender Justice CoP, which currently engages very actively in the 61st session of UN’s Commission on the Status of Women.

DCA’s country office in Nepal invited short films and in-house photos to mark International Women’s Day 2017 in a remarkable competition, which asked participants to interpret and relate their submissions to women’s rights and gender equality. DCA’s Regional Programme Officer, Sushila Kumari Thapa Magar, explains: “Most videos and photos carry the reflection of the participants’ own lives and heart touching moments in positive notes, which encourages people to realize their contribution towards gender equality”.

The competition brought a wave of enthusiasm among the staff and partners to strengthen and commit towards ensuring rights and justice to women in Nepal in days to come.
