In response to the urgent humanitarian needs caused by the two powerful earthquakes that struck north-central Venezuela on 24 June 2026, ACT Alliance has launched the VEN261 Appeal for approximately US$6.1 million. The 12-month response, running from 27 June 2026 to 30 June 2027, brings together the Lutheran World Federation, Diakonie Katastrophenhilfe and HEKS/EPER, working with established local partner organisations.
The appeal will support affected communities in La Guaira, the Capital District, Miranda and Maracay, as well as other priority locations identified through ongoing assessments. Activities include emergency WASH, food assistance, primary healthcare, mental health and psychosocial support, shelter and essential household items, cash assistance, protection, livelihoods, disaster risk management, and the rehabilitation of critical community infrastructure. ACT members and their partners are already carrying out assessments and delivering mobile health services, food and relief distributions, psychosocial support and emergency WASH assistance, while preparing to expand and coordinate their response.
The earthquakes caused extensive loss of life, displacement and damage to homes, health facilities, schools, water systems and other essential infrastructure. The disaster has further intensified the effects of Venezuela’s protracted humanitarian crisis, where weakened public services, economic constraints and high levels of vulnerability are limiting the capacity of affected communities and institutions to recover.
