Purpose

The Department for Theology, Mission and Justice (DTMJ) supports the presence and witness of the member churches (MCs) of the Lutheran World Federation (LWF) globally and locally. DTMJ programs are related to Theological Studies, Capacity Building and Diakonia. DTMJ also houses the advocacy unit of the LWF, the “Action for Justice” team, which focuses its work on Human Rights, Interfaith/Peace, Gender Justice and Climate Justice.

The main purpose of this position is to develop, secure and manage new funding for DTMJ programs. This may involve management of donor relationships, support to grant management. From a strategic perspective, priority will be given to institutional funding opportunities in the thematic area of Climate Justice. It is expected that the Resource Mobilization Coordinator will spend 50% of her/his time on this.

Within the remaining time (approx. 50%), the incumbent will provide orientation, guidance and support on fund raising and donor requirements to DTMJ program staff and assist them in pursuing concrete new funding opportunities.

The position holder will collaborate with the Global Funding Team of the Department for World Service, the humanitarian and development arm of the LWF, in the pursuit of funding opportunities that leverage the full potential of the structure and programmatic engagement of the LWF Communion Office.

 

Required qualifications:

Position environment and dimensions

Main duties

Resource Mobilization

  • Responsible for the development and implementation of the DTMJ Resource Mobilization plan.
  • Proactively explores and pursues funding opportunities in the field of climate justice.
  • Develops, writes, coordinates requirements and submits quality proposal/s on time, in collaboration with the concerned staff – particularly (but not limited to) programs on climate justice.
  • Develops and manages relationships with various donors, with a focus on institutional (governmental, inter-governmental and non-governmental) donors – particularly (but not limited to) programs on climate justice.
  • Advises and provides technical support to program staff in resource mobilization and grant management.

Purpose

The Department for World Service (DWS) is responsible for carrying out diakonal response to humanitarian emergencies and human needs on behalf of the Lutheran World Federation - a Communion of Churches (LWF).

In pursuance of its responsibility and based on its strategy, DWS

  • Operates together with and on behalf of the LWF member churches;
  • Provides support of refugees, returnees, internally displaced people, their host communities and communities at risk, emphasizing livelihoods, quality services, protection and social cohesion;
  • Establishes and runs country programs and emergency operations;

Digital data management

Design and facilitate implementation of road map for digital data management for LWF Country Programs.

Purpose

 

LWF is a faith-based organization with a strong commitment to the human rights and a long-lasting engagement with the UN.

The Department for Theology, Mission and Justice (DTMJ) is primarily responsible for programs and themes geared towards supporting the presence and witness of the member churches (MCs) of the Lutheran World Federation – a Communion of Churches (LWF) globally and locally. The Action for Justice is a team located in DTMJ under the leadership of the Head of Advocacy and dedicated to represent and promote LWF programmatic work carried out worldwide at local and national levels on the following themes: human rights, gender justice, climate justice and interfaith and peace. The main purpose of the position is to focus on advocacy for gender justice in close cooperation with the unit for theological studies, ensuring advocacy is rooted in Lutheran theology.

In consistence with LWF policies, Assembly and Council resolutions the purpose of this position is to contribute to enhanced capacity and awareness on gender justice and women´s human rights in member churches and World Service country programs.

Purpose

LWF World Service is the humanitarian and development arm of the Lutheran World Federation. We are a widely recognized, international, faith-based organization working in over 20 countries. The Global Funding Team (GFT) in World Service is responsible for securing and managing new funding opportunities as part of World Services’ efforts to diversify its funding portfolio.
During the 2013-2018 Global Strategy this work has mainly focused on securing grants from institutional donors (including US Government and EU) in an effort to provide funding for the World Service country program operations, in particular those associated with refugees and IDPs.
As part of more intensified efforts to further diversify funding opportunities during the new 2019-2024 Global Strategy, the GFT intends to broaden its funding portfolio beyond institutional grants and pursue other funding sources and partnerships (including foundations, private, corporate, individual and other sources) in Switzerland and in newly emerging markets.
There will be increased collaboration with the LWF’s Department for Theology, Mission & Justice’s (DTMJ’s) Action for Justice unit, and in particular collaboration with the Resource Mobilisation Coordinator in DTMJ and where possible/relevant seek funding which will benefit both departments.
A large part of the time will be spent identifying new opportunities which will include mapping and identification of potential donors, followed by building, nurturing and developing those relationships. Purpose

The Department for Planning and Coordination (DPC) is responsible for the overall coordination of the planning, monitoring and reporting of the LWF Communion Office (CO) of the Lutheran World Federation – a Communion of Churches (LWF) and for the assurance of the quality and accountability of LWF outcomes. DPC oversees and supports the work of the LWF in various areas including in Resourcing.

The main purpose of this position is to support LWF mission and strategy in developing, securing and managing institutional un-earmarked funding for the Communion Office (CO), through coordination and engagement with a number of LWF funding partners. The incumbent shall also convene the Staff Working Team on Resource Mobilization and oversee donor relationship management for a selected number of donors.

Develops and manages internal processes to support donor relationship and coordination in the CO.

The purpose of the position is to lead, in coordination within the wider program Diakonia and Development, the program named “Waking the Giant – Churches’ involvement in the 2030 UN Agenda for Sustainable Development”, an ecumenical multi-country program. This program aims at strengthening churches’ capacity to effectively contribute to the achievement of the 2030 UN Agenda for Sustainable Development, together with ecumenical actors. It is implemented with global and local ecumenical partners, and covers a wide range of themes such as good health and well-being (SDG3), quality education (SDG4), gender equality (SDG5), reduced inequality (SDG10) and peace, justice and strong institutions (SDG16).

The program is continuously being developed and funding is being raised on an on-going basis. The initial three-year phase was initiated in 2018 and includes work in four countries. In the long term, the aim is to expand the program to more countries.
