ACT Statement on CPD: Disappointment at the lack of a consensus on a final declaration

12 April 2025Global

ACT Alliance is deeply disappointed that no consensus was reached to agree a final declaration for the 58th UN Commission on Population and Development.  With a focus on ensuring healthy lives and promoting well being for all at all ages, it is regrettable that a few countries were unable to support fundamental and long standing agreements on issues that work to promote gender equality and empower women and girls and thus blocked the adoption of a final resolution on this year’s theme.

ACT Alliance participated in the Commission again this year and works with a broad coalition to promote SRHR as a life saving service and a crucial component of the continuum of care. We strongly affirm its joint statement:

We will continue to steadfastly defend the human rights of all women and girls over the course of their lives through spaces of international cooperation like the UN and beyond. This is the moment for governments, UN agencies and civil society to unite, to work together towards the defense of multilateralism, peace, human rights and gender equality.

We are strongest together. Let’s raise our voices and use all the mechanisms to stop the roll-back on rights and continue our fight for the integral ICPD agenda. Let’s be bold and creative in our strategies.
