Joint statement from ACT Alliance and LWF: Faith Actors Urge Adoption of Strong CSW70 Agreed Conclusions on Access to Justice

09 March 2026Global

At CSW70, governments have a critical opportunity and responsibility to come together in multi-lateral cooperation to ensure that every woman and girl, in all their diversity, can access justice without discrimination, delay, or fear. Around the world, shrinking civic space, discriminatory laws, conflict, and rising authoritarianism are deepening barriers to justice and eroding hard‑won human rights protections

At this historic moment, Member States must hold the line against regression, resist attempts to weaken agreed language, and uphold the integrity of the international normative frameworks. The adoption of strong, forward‑looking Agreed Conclusions is essential to accelerate progress towards advancing gender equality and to safeguard commitments already made under CEDAW, the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, the ICPD Programme of Action, and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

We urge all governments to:

  • Adopt robust, action‑oriented Agreed Conclusions that advance equal access to justice for all women and girls, including those most at risk of exclusion.
  • Defend and protect established human rights standards, ensuring that the CSW remains a space that moves forward not backwards on gender justice.
  • Commit to concrete measures that dismantle discriminatory laws, strengthen accountability systems, invest in survivor‑centred justice, and ensure participation of women’s rights and faith‑based actors, who are pushing for progress.

At CSW70, the world must send a clear message: access to justice and gender equality are non‑negotiables. Failing to adopt meaningful Agreed Conclusions would further marginalise millions of women and girls in all their diversity.

Now is the time to demonstrate bold leadership, uphold human rights, and accelerate transformative action across all contexts.
