ACT Alliance statement on the situation in Lebanon

12 March 2026Lebanon

Since March 2nd, 2026, Lebanon has once again been drawn into a dangerous escalation of violence following intensified hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah and the broader regional conflict. At least 570 people have been killed and 1,444 injured since the escalation began. ACT Alliance Lebanon Forum expresses grave concern over the latest rapid increase of violence in Lebanon, as well as the region, which is once again placing civilians at the centre of a rapidly deteriorating security situation. Continued airstrikes on Beirut and other parts of the country have shaken communities already exhausted by years of conflict, economic collapse, and instability. As the situation in Lebanon deteriorates, we urge immediate international support to address the unfolding humanitarian crisis. The magnitude of this emergency calls for immediate assistance. The people of Lebanon are already enduring immense hardship and cannot wait any longer.

Families across Lebanon are once again waking to the sound of explosions and being asked to flee their homes in the middle of the night, after evacuation warnings were issued to large parts of the Beirut suburbs. Hospitals, schools, and vital infrastructure face the risk of damage, while humanitarian needs continue to grow. Many communities were only beginning to recover from previous rounds of conflict when violence erupted again.

The magnitude of this emergency calls for immediate assistance. The people of Lebanon are already enduring immense hardship and cannot wait any longer.

ACT Lebanon Forum

We call on the international community, including all ACT Alliance members, to urgently:

  • Demand an immediate cessation of hostilities and halt the large‑scale displacement of more than 759,300 people seeking refuge in collective shelters, with host families, or in informal arrangements.
  • Publicly call for the protection of civilians, in line with   international humanitarian law and human rights standards.
  • Scale up support for humanitarian actors, including ACT Alliance members responding on the ground through the LEB 241 Appeal, to meet the urgent needs of affected communities. Ensure ACT members in Lebanon, who are working relentlessly, can continue delivering lifesaving assistance to those affected. displaced communities.

A Call for Global Solidarity

The humanitarian response must be scaled up to provide urgent assistance, restore dignity, and protect lives.  We stand united in our commitment to uphold human dignity and human rights, and we call on all states and civil society to join us.
