ACT Jordan Forum statement on the attack on the Church in Karak- Jordan

26 October 2026Jordan

With profound sorrow and grief, the ACT Jordan Forum strongly condemns the criminal attack on the Church of Saint George of the Greek Orthodox Church in Hamoud, Karak, during a funeral prayer on 23rd October, 2026. This deplorable act of violence is alien to the spirit and values of our united Jordanian family.

The ACT Jordan Forum denounces all attacks on houses of worship, including churches, and the targeting of innocent people – regardless of their religion, ethnicity, or gender. The sanctity of religious places must always be respected and protected. What took place at the Church of Saint George was a cowardly act of terrorism, driven by hatred and intolerance. Such an act is an assault on human dignity that violates the sanctity of human life and is a violation of fundamental human rights.

As faith-based actors, we call for the promotion of interfaith tolerance and recognise the importance of media campaigns and education programmes in our society, to counter extremist ideologies and foster respect for diversity.

ACT Jordan Forum

We call upon the Jordanian state to hold the perpetrators of this crime responsible and bring these criminals and their accomplices to justice.  As faith-based actors, we call for the promotion of interfaith tolerance and recognise the importance of media campaigns and education programmes in our society, to counter extremist ideologies and foster respect for diversity.

The ACT Jordan Forum extends its deepest condolences to the families of the victims and prays for healing, comfort, and a swift recovery for the injured. Family members of our colleagues have been killed and injured. We pray for their suffering to be alleviated during these difficult times.

We have great respect and confidence in the strength of Jordan’s social fabric and the solidarity of its people, from all backgrounds, origins, and religions. We have full confidence that the Jordanian government possesses all the capabilities necessary to preserve our security and protect our holy sites, our people, and our property.

We sincerely hope that our government will succeed in preventing discord and strife, so that our beloved Jordan may continue to stand tall as a land of security and peace, and a haven of tolerance and humanity, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II and the Crown Prince.
