ACT Alliance General Secretary, Rudelmar Bueno de Faria, expresses alarm at the escalating military conflict in the Middle East. Civilians are bearing the brunt of this crisis. Homes, communities, and essential services are being put at risk by both internal and external military interventions.
We are deeply concerned about the wider regional impacts of these developments. Many ACT Forums and members in the region are already responding in humanitarian contexts marked by displacement, food insecurity, shrinking civic space, and chronic underfunding. Further escalation puts at risk fragile humanitarian responses, cutting off lifelines for those who depend on them.

We strongly condemn all actions that undermine international law and threaten regional and global security. As history has repeatedly shown, military interventions alone will not deliver democracy or peace.
We call upon all Member States to fulfil their responsibilities under international law, including the UN Charter. Those responsible for violations must be held accountable. We urge all actors to take immediate steps towards deescalation, refrain from further military action, and return to diplomatic dialogue.
A sustainable resolution can only emerge from genuine political engagement rooted in justice, human dignity, and the shared humanity of all people. We appeal for:
- Renewed commitment to diplomatic processes that offer real prospects for a just and lasting peace.
- The protection of civilians, whose rights, dignity and safety must not be collateral damage.
- An investment in locally led humanitarian responses in the region, who are rooted within the communities.
