CSW70: Access to Justice for All Women and Girl

The 70th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW70) takes place at a moment of significant global challenge. As anti‑rights actors continue to weaponize culture, tradition, and religion to undermine gender equality, ACT Alliance and its members are stepping forward to reclaim faith as a force for justice, rights, and dignity for all women and girls.

This year’s priority theme, “Ensuring and strengthening access to justice for all women and girls, including through inclusive and equitable legal systems, eliminating discriminatory laws and practices, and addressing structural barriers”, aligns directly with ACT’s commitment to transform the systems—legal, social, economic, political, and faith-based—that continue to deny women and girls in all their diversity their rights.

Why Faith and Rights-Based Voices Matter at CSW70?

Faith-based organisations are uniquely placed to:

  • bridge community realities with global policy spaces,
  • challenge harmful social norms,
  • accompany survivors seeking justice,
  • influence reforms in legal, religious, and customary systems, and
  • shift public narratives towards equality and dignity for all.

At CSW70, ACT Alliance will strengthen coalitions that defend rights, protect civic space, and advance gender justice at every level—from the local to the global.

Key Messages

ACT Alliance’s Key Messages at CSW70

Millions of women and girls in all their diversity still face discriminatory laws, inaccessible justice systems, and structural barriers that prevent them from realising their rights.

All legal systems—including religious and customary systems—must uphold women’s equal rights, including in marriage, inheritance, guardianship, and economic life.

Gender‑responsive macroeconomic policies are essential to remove structural inequalities and support women and girls’ autonomy and agency.

Sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) are integral to justice. Legal systems must address all forms of violence, including digital violence, and ensure survivor‑centred, trauma‑informed approaches. You can read about how faith-based actors are advancing SRHR here.

Faith leaders play a critical role in shifting harmful norms and advancing gender‑just interpretations of religious teachings. You can read out recent report on social norm change here.
